Part 7 – Who Wants To Be Great?

“For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified” (NRSV)

“It was a perfect sacrifice by a perfect person to perfect some very imperfect people. By that single offering, he did everything that needed to be done for everyone who takes part in the purifying process” (MSG)

“And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need” Acts 2:44-45 (NASB)

“Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,” said Jesus, the greatest of servants
[Matt. 20:26, 23:11, 19:30; Mark 9:35,10:31; Luke 9:48, 13:30, 22:26; Jn. 13:14-15, 15:13-14]

“For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity to indulge your flesh, but through love serve one another” Galatians 5:13 (NET)

3 Points Regarding Serving:

The basis for serving others is SALVATION

“God has made us what we are. He has created us in Christ Jesus to live lives filled with good works that he has prepared for us to do” Ephesians 2:10 (GW)

The barrier to serving others is SELFISHNESS

“If you insist on saving your life, you will lose it. Only those who throw away their lives for my sake and for the sake of the Good News will ever know what it means to really live.” Mark 8:35 (LB)

The motive for serving is LOVE

“No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love” 1 Corinthians 13:3 (MSG)
